Put.Yourself.First.
Repeat after me: Put Yourself First. If you’re feeling constantly burnt out, or are going through a difficult time, it sounds like you need a vacation. Everyone deserves a break where you can relax, rejuvenate, and release yourself from every-day stressors. Overworking and experiencing drastic life events are major causes for a drop in your mental-health which can lead to unhealthy habits.
Taking some time off from daily responsibilities and giving yourself the self-love you deserve through a vacation is known to boost your mental health. In addition, switching off helps to rejuvenate the mind and body for heading back to work. Whether a stay-cation, domestic, or international, putting yourself first and taking some time off for your well-being is crucial. Here are some ideas if you don’t know where to begin.
Stay-Cation:
A stay-cation is perfect for those with limited time or budget. Head to Upstate NY or the Poconos for a nature retreat and spa. Nothing screams wellness more than taking a breath of fresh air and doing some outdoor activities like hiking, apple/pumpkin picking, and sitting by a toasty fire roasting marshmallows.
Fall is a beautiful time of year when the leaves are changing to vivid reds and oranges. Now is the perfect time to be outdoor-sy where the weather is mild. For accommodations, I recommend checking out Airbnb for some great cabins at reasonable prices while having an authentic experience.
Domestic Solo Trip
Have a week or 2 to spare for vacation time? Why not travel across the country and visit a new state! For a domestic, relaxing, and warm time-spent away, I suggest looking into Arizona, California, and Florida. Three things all of these destinations have in common are palm trees, sunshine, and great atmospheres.
You can’t beat the fabulous three, they are big destinations for those looking to escape fall & winter for an extended summer! With travel making a comeback, I suggest comparing hotels to Airbnb and see what deals are offered for your budget.
International Group Travel
Want to venture out internationally and make some new friends around the globe? Book a group adventure trip! Tour agencies like Intrepid Travel, G Adventures, and Trafalgar offer tours to hundreds of destinations at reasonable prices with some meals, tours & excursions, and accommodations included. I highly recommend the “North Morocco Adventure” from Intrepid if you want to explore Morocco, a vibrant and exotic country with a beautiful culture.
Furthermore, if you’re looking specifically for a “Solo Female Travel” type of trip, I highly recommend checking out The Solo Female Traveler Network here. This platform is an online community of solo female travelers looking to network, support one another, and travel together.
Growing up in a toxic and dysfunctional household, I’ve suffered from lots of anxiety, PTSD, and seasonal depression. After my first trip visiting the United Kingdom, I discovered the benefits that travel has on my mental health and how much it positively impacts me. Having the opportunity to travel abroad means removing myself out of a negative environment and surrounding myself with positivity for as long as I can.
I often book myself a trip every 3-4 months wherever possible. Doing this has significantly reduced my anxiety, while increasing my overall happiness. Traveling does so much for the brain and your overall well-being. It’s a form of therapy that can relieve and help anxiety, depression, and isolation. It’s a therapy that has worked for me where I’ve also found a passion at the same time. Above all, your mental health comes first.
